The sub-4 metre segment of cars is a win-win for the manufacturer as well as the end buyer mainly for the excise duty benefits that cars in this segment get from the government. And it is no wonder that the manufacturers want to make their presence felt in this segment. Ford tasted a fair bit of success with the EcoSport and now Mahindra is all set to join the bandwagon with the TUV300. The Nashik-based car maker announced that they will launch their compact SUV TUV300 on September.
We got a sneak peek of the car when Mahindra revealed the sketches late last month based on which we at ZigWheels have managed to draw a rendering. The TUV300 will feature a 1.5-litre oil burner to make the most out of the excise duty benefits. Aside from the powerplant, it will also be based on an all new platform and unlike previously assumed, will not replace the new Bolero.
Although details about the soon to be launched TUV500 are still sketchy, Mahindra said that with this offering too they wanted to stick to making a tough SUV rather than a sleek soft roader. In fact, at a previous press conference, Mahindra also mentioned that they have taken assistance from Italian design firm Pininfarina to make the TUV300 the way it looks.
Spy shots of the production ready TUV300 have been making their rounds on the internet but in a few weeks time we will get to see it in flesh sans camouflage. Stay tuned for updates.
Speaking on the announcement, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), M&M Ltd. mentioned,” The TUV300 is one of the most eagerly anticipated launches of this year. Signifying a true ‘Make-in-India’ product, the design of the TUV300 is inspired by a battle tank. We are confident that this product launch will create excitement in the market as well as amongst our customers”.
